The US embassy has donated sh25m to support the poultry and livestock projects for HIV/AIDS-affected families in Masaka, reports Dismus Buregyeya.

The projects were identified by the Uganda Muslim Women Tabliqs desk and the Uganda Muslim women Empowerment Initiative in Masaka.

The US deputy Chief of Missions, Fitzergerald, pledged to expand the projects to over 140 needy families from Senya parish in Masaka.

He expressed concern over the poverty among people enrolled under the Antretroviral Therapy (ART) treatment, especially in the rural areas.

He said the poor nutrition and incomes of people living with HIV is a challenge which required immediate redress.

Fitzgerald said this on Tuesday during his tour of orphan and widow families supported by the US embassy in Kaswa, Senya parish, Kingo sub-county in Masaka district.

He said the US government had contributed $220m to Uganda towards the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Present were the district kadhi, Sheikh Huzairu Kiruta and Masaka resident district commissioner Bamusede Bwambale.
