First car-assembling projects get licences

UGANDA Investment Authority (UIA) has licensed three maiden projects that will assemble vehicles, UIA’s executive director Dr Maggie Kigozi has said.

UGANDA Investment Authority (UIA) has licensed three maiden projects that will assemble vehicles, UIA’s executive director Dr Maggie Kigozi has said.

Kigozi said in an interview on Wednesday that 25 manufacturing projects worth $58m (about sh106b) had got licences.

The projects that will assemble vehicles include Bangladesh-Japan International Uganda, Cosmo Uganda Limited and Jounda Motors who will assemble Mazda vehicles.
Other projects are Kings Impex who will invest in recycling and manufacturing of paper bags while Steel and Tube Industries will make steel products.

Snowmans has been licensed to install food-processing equipment while Fuda International and Moonstar will manufacture furniture.

Kinyara Agricultural Development Company will manufacture sugar.
NEC HealthWorld Pharmaceutical, Quality Chemical Industries and National Enterprise Corporation will manufacture drugs while Travel Light will make suitcases.

The East African Botanicals and KAF Pharmaceuticals will manufacture pharmaceutical products while Himaya General Construction will make lubricants.

AI Tyres will make retreading tyres, Bweya Mineral Water Company will establish a mineral water factory while Glorre International will manufacture plastics and wax mattresses.

Plasto Foam Industries will manufacture nylon and plastic products.

Vaselux International will manufacture cosmetics, Jing Xiang Investment Company will make nails and roofing materials while Blue Nile Distilleries will make spirits.

“Other licensed projects include eight projects in agriculture, forestry and fishing worth $12.7m (sh23.3b), two projects in the construction sector worth $4.5m (sh8.2b) while $15m (sh27.6b) is to be invested in provision of professional services,” she said.
