THE Uganda women’s network (UWONET) has called on women in northern Uganda to write a manifesto that provides a platform for common demands for achievement of gender equity.

The UWONET coordinator, Solome Nakaweesi Kimbugwe, said the women’s manifesto for Uganda is a political document that highlights critical issues of concern for women and makes demands for addressing them at national level.

She appealed to women in northern Uganda to develop the manifesto as a result of the insufficient attention given to critical issues of concern to women in politics.

“It will articulate women’s concerns in the 2006 election process and beyond,” Kimbugwe said.

She said the manifesto objectives would provide room for negotiation between women and the various political candidates and bringing together women voices in the current political transition.

She said with political dispensation, it is imperative that the various political parties develop manifestoes and other working documents that bear interests of women.

She was addressing women at the closure of a two-day workshop at White House Hotel, Lira, on Tuesday.
