Thirteen girls have been selected out of the 27 contestants for the 2005/2006 Miss Nkumba beauty pageant. The event is scheduled for November 19, at Resort Beach Hotel.

Thirteen girls have been selected out of the 27 contestants for the 2005/2006 Miss Nkumba beauty pageant. The event is scheduled for November 19, at Resort Beach Hotel.

Gates open at 5:00pm and entrance is sh7,000 for students with identity cards 10,000 for the public while VIP tickets go for sh25,000.

The winner will get a Corsa with a personalised number plate. The first runner-up will take home a computer and the second runner-up, a home theatre system.

Bebe Cool, Ngoni, Sweet Kid, Rud Boy Devoh, Bobi Wine and the Firebase Crew are some of the artistes lined up to perform. The emcee of the night will be the award winner Straka Mwezi of WBS.

The theme is Cat walk on waves; Gold and Platinum. Paul Lubanga, the university’s social affairs minister says the pageant is focussing on beauty and intelligence. The winner will promote charity causes like HIV/AIDS awareness that the 2004/2005 beauty queen Jackie Kityo has been promoting.

The main sponsors are Club Volts, Imperial resort and KK beach. The winner will also be the first face of club Volts. Other sponsors include Victoria flowers, S & S Internet cafe. “We decided to have 13 contestants for many reasons, the main factor being discipline.

However, it is difficult to control a big number,” says Phiona, the chairperson organising committee and also the in charge for girls.
