The Longest River, a daring feature film of the recently-concluded expedition along the whole length of the Nile, is a record of this historic moment. The viewing at Cineplex Garden City was rightly as high-spirited as the group that took the expedition. The first lady did not make it as the chief guest, but Esther Nsibambi aptly filled the gap. “Among the NGOs I lead, Women’s International Maternity Aid (WIMA) stands out,” were Janet Museveni’s first comments.


It reminded everyone of why they had come - to raise funds for WIMA. International Hospital’s Ian Clarke, who was the doctor of the expedition, had a busy time explaining what the expedition really was, while his wife said she had “spent many nights wondering exactly how the expeditionists were faring in some of the most dangerous and isolated parts of Uganda and Southern Sudan.”
