KENYA Airways (KQ) has toppled East African Breweries (EABL) in the sixth East Africa’s Most Respected Companies Survey.

By Esther Nandekya KENYA Airways (KQ) has toppled East African Breweries (EABL) in the sixth East Africa’s Most Respected Companies Survey.
“In the new country category, KQ has emerged as the most respected company in Kenya, with Tanzania Breweries and MTN taking the honour in Tanzania and Uganda respectively,” PricewaterhouseCoopers’ marketing executive for Uganda Lucille Isingoma said in a statement on Monday.
“The country awards which were introduced this year will be second to the East African Awards, and will ensure that nominations for respect that are country-driven are also recognised,” Isingoma said.
He said the country awards were introduced in response to requests from the business community to complement regional awards.
“We always ask for feedback because we want the survey to continue being relevant to the East African market,” Isingoma said.
Homegrown led in the agricultural sector for the second consecutive year, Standard Chartered Bank toppled Barclays Bank in the financial sector and Serena Group of Hotels sailed to victory in the hotels and tourism sector for the third year running.
EABL led in the manufacturing sector, Nakumatt Supermarkets led the services sector while Safaricom maintained its lead in the telecom information and communication technology sector.
New entrants into the rankings were Mumias Sugar coming third in the agriculture sector and the Tamarind Group coming third in the hotels and tourism sector, tieing with the Movenpick Royal Palm Hotel.
“More than 400 chief executive officers in East Africa were approached to take part in the survey, of whom 290 were successfully interviewed by Steadman Group,” Isingoma said. EABL had won the top award for five consecutive years.
