THE Government has released sh800m to Kayunga district to fund the construction of a bridge on Kanda- Kawongo swamp in Galiraaya sub-county.

The district chairman, Stephen Dagada, told journalists at Ntenjeru headquarters on Wednesday that qualified companies were free to apply for the job.

Kanda-Kawongo swamp came into existence during the 2001-2002 elnino rains which ravaged gardens and washed away houses.

Dagada said if completed, the 50km project would act as a short way to Lira and other districts in the north.

He said this would also boost the district’s tax base.

Dagada said over 3,000 international traders from the Democratic Republic of Congo use the route as a short way to Uganda.
