President Yoweri Museveni has advised the people of Africa in general and East Africa in particular to re-orient themselves in order to view issues in their correct perspective.

He also urged the region to make demands that are beneficial to welfare and improve livelihood.

Museveni said this on Monday evening while opening the 7th East African Jua Kali exhibition at the UMA showgrounds at Lugogo in Kampala.

The exhibition that runs up to Sunday is staged under the theme ‘Jua Kali: Vehicle for sustainable Regional industrialisation and development’.

It has attracted over 500 exhibitors from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda.

A statement from State House yesterday said Museveni reiterated that the demands of the people of the region should evolve around local, regional and international markets. He told the exhibitors that regional leaders were addressing the issue of markets through the East African Community (EAC).

He advised exhibitors to improve the quality of their products to international standards to access external markets.

EAC secretary general Nuwe Amanya Mushega said Jua Kali was the backbone for industrialisation in the region.
