<b>Drivers held</b> <br>KAMPALA - The Police have arrested 100 drivers in the city in an operation conducted by the newly- formed Special City Traffic Patrol Unit.

KAMPALA - The Police have arrested 100 drivers in the city in an operation conducted by the newly- formed Special City Traffic Patrol Unit. Sarah Kibwiki, the central Police chief, told a press conference at Central Police Station yesterday that the unit formed last week, would deal with traffic law offenders. She said three people died in city accidents last week which involved 720 vehicles.

Debt cleared
KAMPALA - Joan kategaya, wife of former Premier Eriya Kategaya, on Wednesday paid the sh2.4m debt she owed businessman Gonzanga Ssebaggala. Mengo court Chief Magistrate Margaret Mafabi had last Friday threatened to jail Mrs. Kategaya if she did not pay the money. ssebaggala sued Mrs. Kategaya, saying she had sold her a vehicle, but failed to give her its logbook. Court ruled in favour of Ssebaggala.

Widows sue
KAMPALA - Two widows have sued Century Bottling Company (CBC), over the death of their husband. Margaret Nansubuga and Maimuna Namuswe of Jinja district claim that their husband, Ssaalongo Lubanja Ssegirinnya, died in a fatal accident, which involved the soft drinks' company truck and the taxi he was travelling in. They are demanding sh100m compensation. They blamed the accident on the negligence of the CBC's truck driver.

One charged
KAMPALA - The manager of Stratagem drilling company was yesterday charged with embezzlement of sh44.5m. Fred Isingoma of Bunga, a city suburb, denied the charges before Buganda Road Court magistrate Olive Kazwaare but was asked to apply for bail in the High Court. prosecutor said Isingoma committed the offence between September and October 2004.
