UGANDA Tennis Association (UTA) hosts the biggest tennis tournament on their calendar, the ITF East Africa U-18 tennis circuit leg two that starts today.

UGANDA Tennis Association (UTA) hosts the biggest tennis tournament on their calendar, the ITF East Africa U-18 tennis circuit leg two that starts today.

Twenty one countries will be battling to claim ITF ranking points in the second leg at Lugogo Tennis Club after completing the Rwanda leg .

Uganda’s contingent at the event of five boys and three girls all bowed out in the second round of the U-18 ranking tournament. They have a chance to redeem themselves in front of home fans.

Countries taking part include Botswana, Burundi, Czech Republic, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Great Britain, India, Israel and Kenya.

Others are Madagascar, Namibia, Romania, Rwanda, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

ITF, the world tennis governing body, has offered US9,000 dollars (sh16.6m) to the three countries that have hosted the three legs.

The Uganda leg ends on December 7 with Kenya hosting the last leg to be held on December 9-13 at the Parklands Club in Nairobi.

Uganda last hosted the circuit in 2002 then sponsored by MTN Uganda. Local players are hoping that their names get onto the latest ITF rankings.
