TWO weeks ago, at Emin Pasha Hotel, one of the season’s more unusual fashion events took place. Some fifty newcomers to the modelling scene — some of them still in diapers, and many of them showing quite a bit more pudge and tummy than the usual catwalk models — assembled for a children’s photo shoot featuring fashions from Abato.

The photo shoot showcased clothing from Abato Shop, where 100% of proceeds go towards meeting healthcare and medical expenses for Nsambya Babies Home.

Some fifty children participated as volunteer models, coached and guided by professional models from Models World Uganda Ltd. Children have been recruited from schools such as Honeytree Montessori, Heritage International, Aga Khan Nursery School – Kololo, Acorns International Pre-School, International School of Uganda and others.

A number of children from Nsambya Babies’ Home itself will also join in the modelling fun. With photographers from Colour Chrome to create the shots against the backdrop of the beautiful Emin Pasha Hotel, the event aims to produce a portfolio of images of “everyday children in everyday fashions” that will be used in small-scale advertising for Abato Shop. Abato Shop was started in 2002.
