NAKAPIRIPIRIT — The NRM electoral commission has released the results for the district chairperson and woman parliamentary primaries. Incumbent LC5 chief John Lorot and Woman MP Rose Nacha were declared winners of the November 30 elections. NRM publicist Ofowno Opondo on Thursday said Lorot got 948 votes against 847 for his lone challenger, John Nangiro. Nacha beat Rose Iriama.

FDC choice
KAPCHORWA — Former minister for animal industry and fisheries Prof. Sheme Chemangei Masaba will contest for the Tingey county parliamentary seat in the 2006 elections on the FDC ticket. Masaba was recently elected unopposed to unseat Dr. Stephen Chebrot, who will tussle it out in the NRM primaries against two others. The primaries were on Wednesday postponed over irregularities.

Busia gets
BUSIA — The German embassy has donated garbage skips worth sh17m to the town council to improve garbage collection in the area. Peter Nabunywa, the council’s health inspector, yesterday said the six skips would be placed in strategic areas to improve sanitation in the town. He appealed to residents to desist from throwing garbage on the roads.

Child labour
BUSIA — The district probation and welfare officer has asked residents to work to eliminate child labour in the district. Julius Ogalo said child labour was widespread in the district. He was speaking at a workshop organised by rural development media and communication at the community hall on Tuesday. Ogalo cited fishing, quarrying, mining, smuggling and commercial sex exploitation as the worst forms of child labour in the district.

Lawyers told
KAMPALA — Lawyers representing the Uganda Law Society (ULS) and the Attorney General have been summoned to appear before the constitutional Court on December 14 to sort out the agreed facts and issues in a petition filed by ULS against the State. The registrar of the Court of Appeal, Joseph Murangira, issued the summons on Thursday.
