THE three overall winners of The Design an Advert Children’s Christmas Competition have been selected.

Congratulations to twelve-year-old Sheila Malingu from Mbarara SDA Primary School who drew the best advert, Allan Steven Kakuba from Aga Khan who came second and Alaba Mary Macklyn from Hillstone Nursery and Primary School who was third. They get sh500,000, sh300,000 and sh200,000 respectively.

It was a stiff competition. The three proud winners defeated thousands of children from all over the country who also drew adverts for Splash, Shell, Bata and MTN. Each week, four winning entries were chosen and published in The Children’s Vision. Those entries were then entered for the grand prize, which was held on December 6, 2005, at Fang Fang restaurant.

There were supposed to be 24 final entries. However, two were disqualified (thrown out) after it was realised that teachers must have helped the pupils to draw the adverts. Teachers should not directly help you to draw the advert. If they do, your chances of winning reduce.

Four judges from popular advertising agencies (people who make adverts) were chosen to select the best three adverts. It was a very tight competition. All the entries were very good. The judges took a long time to decide the best three adverts.

“We were looking for level of creativity, presentation (how the advert was drawn) and the words used,” said Liz Kimote, one of the judges.

The Children Vision Editor, Penlope Nankunda, commended the great effort put into this year’s competition by both the children, teachers and parents.

“There has been great improvement, both in the number and quality of entries this year. It shows that the children are putting more thought into what they are doing. We encourage even more pupils to participate next year. This competition helps them develop their creative skills,” she said.

After six weeks of drawing adverts, the Design an Advert Children’s Christmas Competition has come to an end.

The Children’s Vision would like to thank you all for participating in the competition. Like we said before, if your advert did not win, don’t worry. Try again next year and you might be one of our winners. If you did not know about the competition, now you know. Start preparing for next years competition.

We got 2,821 entries and this was very good. Most of the adverts were very creative, colourful and attractive. However, we got a number of entries which were drawn by adults. They were disqualified.

The three final winners of this competition are Sheila Malingu, Allan Kakuba and Macklyn Alaba.

They get sh500,000, sh300,000 and sh200,000 respectively.
These winners are invited to the prize giving ceremony on Friday December 16, 2005 at 12:30pm at Hotel Africana. Please come with one parent or guardian.

The three most helpful teachers of the competition will also be rewarded at this function. They are Mr. Denis Kwesiga of Lake Victoria Primary School who brought in 294 entries, Mr. Julius Peter Otim of Kampala Junior Academy with 110 entries and Ms. Prosper Eleanor of SOS Hermann Gmeiner School with 102 entries.

Some entries were disqualified because they were drawn by the teachers.

The Children’s Vision will also send certificates to other teachers who have been helpful.
