UGANDA’s Patrick Ochan and Duncan Mugabe fairy tale run in the ITF East Africa U-18 junior circuit ended yesterday when they lost in the final that produced more upsets.

The event saw Burundi’s Aziza Butoyi upset the formbook when she lifted the girls singles, beating seed two Suzelle Davin of Namibia 6-2, 6-4 while Ghana’s Emmanuel Mensah also stopped Kigali and Kampala legs winner, Lofo Ramiaramanana of Madagascar 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the boys singles.

Ochan and Mugabe were the first players from the eastern Africa regional to reach the final of the ITF circuit but found the going tough, trailing 0-3 in the first set before making it 1-3 and 3-5 before losing 3-6, 2-6.

Butoyi defied the odds to win the event despite being ranked ninth.
