First lady Janet museveni has said she will work for development and eradication of poverty among the people of Ruhama County in Ntungamo, irrespective of their political affiliations.
Mrs. Museveni said she had not been able to spend much time in the county over the last years because she was working for the rest of the country.
“I have been working all these years for the whole country, especially for the orphans and HIV/AIDS victims. Now I am here to work for the people of Ruhama,” she said.
She was speaking at Rwera Catholic Parish in Ruhama during a confirmation ceremony presided over by Mbarara auxiliary bishop Lambert Bainomugisha on Sunday.
MPs Beatrice rwakimaari and Mary Karooro Okurut, the Presidential adviser on AGOA, Susan Muhwezi and Ntungamo LC5 chief John karazarwe attended the service.
Mrs. Museveni also said she would not divide the people of Ruhama, where she is the NRM parliamentary candidate.
She will battle it out with the incumbent, Forum for democratic Change stalwart Augustine ruzindana.
Mrs. Museveni asked residents to focus on income-generating activities instead of accepting ‘little money’ from candidates.
“I am against distributing of sugar, salt and cash so that people can vote. This only helps for a short time but people return to poverty. We need to encourage people to work for themselves and have facilities that will help them make money,” she said.
“What we need is to work hard and increase the incomes of our people. I have accepted to come here and represent you. God has sent me to do His job and I will do it,” Mrs. Museveni added.
