Local traditional music took centre stage at Christ the King Church, Kampala last Sunday when the church’s 10:00 O’clock choir was presenting Christmas carols.

The amazing sounds of the drums, choristers and the the flexible waists of the dancers drew excitement in the 75-year-old church, forcing Emmanuel Mutebile, the Bank of Uganda Governor, to join in the dance.

Mutebile, who was guest of honour had earlier officially handed over a sh15m hi-tech organ of the ‘Yamaha Clavinova’ family, which he donated to the choir last year.

The Governor drew excitement when he played out some keys, to commission the organ. Archbishop Augustine Kasujja then blessed the organ, after which the concert began. The choristers also performed Joseph Haydn’s The Creation, a poignant classical work and other hymns, but it was the traditional pieces that got the congregation craning their necks to get a clear view of the the action on stage.

Mutebile kept nodding his head throughout the performance.
After the show, the choristers hosted their guests to a sumptuous cocktail at Cardinal Wamala Hall, sponsored by the Managing Director of Nile Bank, Richard Byarugaba.

Mutebile also donated sh1m to Fr. Joseph Ssebunnya, to facilitate the Christmas party for Kampala’s street kids.
