ANGLICAN Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi has called for humility, unity and peaceful co-existence among Ugandans during the ongoing campaigns and elections.
Orombi appealed for peaceful campaigns and elections, saying every citizen should be at liberty to exercise and enjoy his/her right during campaigns and elections.
He was addressing Christians at All Saints Cathedral, Nakasero on Christmas.
Orombi urged christians to stick to Jesus Christ’s principles of love and forgiveness to enable Ugandans tolerate each other during this charged political period.
Orombi said Christmas was a period for humanity to renew their relationships with God and fellow human beings.
He said if Christians faithfully followed Christ’s teachings of loving God and their neighbours, conflicts would be minimised and society would be peaceful.
Orombi regretted the gross misunderstanding of the meaning of Christmas among Christians, saying most of them had reduced the birth of Jesus Christ to eating and drinking.
“I was reading in a newspaper this morning how many animals have been slaughtered to celebrate Christmas and I sympathise with those animals,†he said as the congregation responded in bouts of laughter.
Present was Chief Justice Benjamin Odoki.
