Independent presidential candidate Abed Bwanika has appealed to NRM opponents to stop insulting President Yoweri Museveni.
Bwanika said the insults had made Museveni to doubt the opposition’s credibility to lead the country and forced him to stay in power longer than expected, so as to look for a potential successor.
“Museveni cannot refuse to hand over power if he is defeated. It is you people who abuse him and his government who make him doubt your credibility in handling a country like Uganda of today,” he said.
He was responding to questions on what he would do if Museveni refused to hand over power if he lost the February 23 elections.
Bwanika was addressing a rally at Mbale Old Taxi park on Wednesday.
He asked Ugandans to vote for him, saying he is still young and vibrant.
“I am only 39 years old and I am still fresh and therefore have good new ideas, good for this country, especially in this era of modernisation,” he said.
