THE Minister of Local government, Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere, has vowed to fight district accounting officers who fail to show proper accountability of local government funds.
Kabwegyere (right) said misuse of Government funds creates a bad image to the ministry and the integrity of the respective district accounting officers.
“My ministry would, this time, be too strict to any district official found liable for misusing Government funds,” he warned.
He was addressing Mpigi district leaders at the headquarters recently.
He said proper use of funds would help districts acquire bonuses, and advised districts to properly handle Government grants.
Mpigi LC5 chairman Badru Kabega Mukalazi thanked the Government for promoting rural development by extending grants to districts.
Mukalazi said the grants had promoted education, health and other developmental programmes.
