The Mufti of Uganda, sheikh Ramathan Mubajje, has said the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council and Muslims at large will not support the Domestic Relations bill if it contravenes with the teachings of the Koran.

Mubajje was on Friday officially opening the Masaka Muslim Women Koran Association seminar on Koran reading at Masaka Main Mosque where he led the Juma prayers.

He said some of the articles in the bill reflected the Western culture that has caused most marriages to fail.

“Western marriages do not last because wives are not submissive to their husbands, and these are some of the issues that the Domestic Relations Bill wants to import here,” he said.

Mubajje was responding to the district woman MP, Sauda Mugerwa, who requested him to calm down the Muslims about the bill.

Mugerwa said the bill was not yet passed and time to discuss and consult them was not yet due.

The Mufti said the 1995 Constitution allowed freedom of worship and hence anyone had the liberty to implement what his belief directed him to do.

He warned Muslim women to be very careful, saying that people who want to spoil the country use their vulnerability.

He gave the example of the ebimansulo where women were used to spearhead the importation of immoral acts.
