Introducing James Wood aka ‘Cerious’ the latest addition to Uganda’s Gospel hip-hop batch

Introducing James Wood aka ‘Cerious’ the latest addition to Uganda’s Gospel hip-hop batch. But Wood is not your typical Ugandan rapper in the literal sense of the word.

Besides the fact that he is an 18-year-old white boy trying out his hand out on Ugandan hip-hop scene there is more cause for him to stand out.

Wood, whose first performance was at the Urban Gospel Jam at Cine Afrique in December, intends with the help of his Ryde 4 Jesus Ministries, to take the gospel to secular venues through rap.

“I want to create an example to the youth – an image that says it is cool to be Christian,” the S.6 student at Rainbow Academy says.

To prove his seriousness, ‘Cerious’ has just finished work on, Get up praise the Lord, a slamming word-in-your-face gospel track.

Doug B of Alpha 1 studios produced the song.

“My rap is not your usual hip-hop. It’s got a deep message and the flow is simple. It is really all about Christ,” he says.

Wood has just finished work on another song called ‘Hey Party People,’ on which he teams up with singer Michael Ross.

‘Hey Party People,’ is a strategic collaboration to help me break through to my audience on radio. But the message in this song, like all others, is strictly about God.”

Wood’s album is expected out in July and will blend R&B, Ragga, rap and rock. He promises to attempt a few Luganda and Swahili words.
