Lango youth have rejected the extension of the deadline of amnesty to the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels.
They said the extension would give the rebels more opportunity to wreak havoc on the people of Acholi, Lango and Teso.
They resolved this at a meeting in Lira recently.
The conference was organised by Lango youth and discussed the conflict in the north.
A Uganda People’s Congress official, Adoko Nekyon, was the chief guest at the function that attracted over 1,000 youth from Lango sub-region.
The youth opposed the new extension, saying the rebels had enough time under the just-ended term to talk peace with the Government.
The MP for Kole County, Stanley Omodi Okot, said the UPDF was almost wiping out the rebels in Lango and Teso.
“The UPDF and Amuka will finish Kony soon. There is no need to give them more time if they can be defeated through military means,†he said.
Lira district youth leader Denis Obua urged the Government to create employment and start income generating activities for the youth in the region.
