THIRTY commanders of Taban Amin’s West Nile Bank Front arrive today from the Democratic Republic of Congo to join their former soldiers at a transition camp in Mubende

THIRTY commanders of Taban Amin’s West Nile Bank Front arrive today from the Democratic Republic of Congo to join their former soldiers at a transition camp in Mubende, reports Charles Ariko.

Hajji Gganyana Miiro, the Amnesty Commissioner in-charge of West Nile region, yesterday told The New Vision that the commanders were part of the last group of 50 Taban Amin’s former fighters to pull out of DR Congo.
“The commanders of Taban Amin are finally coming home. We expect them here tomorrow (today). This will be the last group of Amin’s soldiers returning home under the amnesty. We are going to take them to Mubende to join their soldiers before we transfer them to another camp in West Nile for orientation,” Miiro said.

He said the total number of Taban’s soldiers, their wives and dependants was 502.
The first group of 404 arrived in the country from Kitona in DR Congo in December last year.
Their leader, Taban Amin, returned home in October last year, ending a 24-year self-imposed exile.
Miiro said the ex-combatants would undergo a six-week orientation programme in Bondo camp in West Nile before they are issued with Amnesty certificates.

They will also choose whether to join the UPDF or settle down as civilians.
