THE Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) captured a Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebel commander during a clash at the Lango-Teso border near Katakwi district.
This was disclosed by the Arrow Group militia coordinator, Musa Ecweru, during a press conference in his office on Saturday.
Ecweru identified the commander as Odhiambo.
He said the clash took place at Adwiri vilage in Obalanga sub-county, Katakwi district.
Ecweru told the residents, especially the internally displaced returning home, to be security-conscious and cooperate with the army and the militia.
He said the rebels, who were a handful, were a spent force, who simply wanted to scare the displaced from returning home.
Ecweru said the Government had secured sh2.7b for roads to check on LRA ambushes.
He said work on the 80-km road network had started.
Ecweru said the network included Atirir-Orungo-Acuna stretch, which had been recently notorious for rebel ambushes.
