THE director of Gulu Regional Blood Bank, Dr. Sam Uringtho, has said, 705 units of blood were collected during the blood donation week in the district.
Tony Langalanga reports that Uringtho said they expected 700 units of blood.
Uringtho was briefing The New Vision on the exercise on Saturday at UNIFAT Primary School where the donation exercise took place.
“This drive was very successful in Gulu because we got more units than we had targeted,” he said.
He was the first to start the blood drive by giving one unit of blood. Other blood donors included the blood donor recruitment officer, Gulu regional blood Bank, Moris Anyikanying, who gave one unit of blood. The exercise was organised by Gulu Regional Blood Bank and the Uganda Red Cross Society.
Uringtho attributed the success of the exercise to good donor mobilisation in the region and the vigilant Red Cross volunteers. He said over 70% of the donors were students.
