KUMI residents have rejected negotiations with Karimojong leaders who want access to water and pasture in the district.
District chairman Ismael Orot made the decision following a Karimojong visit led by Nakapiripirit LC5 chairman John Larot.
Larot was representing the Bokora and the Pian Karimojong kraal leaders who wanted to be allowed to graze in Ngariam, Tisai and on the shores of Lake Bisina in Kumi
Orot was on a recent mobilisation tour at Ongino, Malera and Kolir sub-counties.
He said the Karimojong’s interest was to steal, kill and rape Teso women and children.
He said the Karimojong, mainly the Bokora and Pian, were responsible for poverty in the district, adding that they robbed cattle from Kumi.
He said the district was not interested in harbouring “thieves”.
