FEMALES showed they are a force to reckon with in academics going by their performance in the 2003 Primary Leaving Examination results released yesterday.
Girls swept the top four positions in Kampala, with Elizabeth Oseku of Greenhill Academy at the helm. “I didn’t expect it to happen. I thought I would not do well in Science, especially section D which I found to be difficult,” said the excited 13- year-old Oseku.
Oseku was followed by Sanyu Kajuba and I. Nambalirwa both of Kampala Parents and Nanungi Kabuye of Kasubi Church of Uganda before Thomas Kayizzi of City Parents came in the fifth position.
Isabella Kirabo of Seeta Parents topped in Mukono district where the fourth and fifth positions also went to girls - C. Ajinjeru of Namagunga Boarding and Ann Kyakuwaire of St. Agnes Naggalama
In Rakai, girls from Nabbunga Fountains of Education took all the five positions, with L. Nakimuli at the top. She was followed by Gloria Nakato, J. Nalusiba, E. Kayanja and Angela Nanfuka in that order.
Although boys dominated the top five candidates listed per district, in Luweero, Rose Nabunya of Luweero Light of Life and J. Namwanje of Wobulenzi Parents were first and second, leaving the rest of the positions to boys.
Marble Kansiime and Judith Atugonza from Murubya Primary School were first and second in Hoima while Ahurra Kazooba of Buhinga Primary School topped Kabarole.
In Kiboga, the first three slots also went to girls with E. Karegyeya of St. Paul Kyamutwe primary school emerging the best candidate followed by F. Namisango of the same school and Namawejje Nulu of Kirinda primary school.
Jill Turiheihi of Kabale Preparatory was the top candidate in Kabale followed by J. Kyomugisha of Hornby Junior.
Ruth Akol of Ngora Girls was the best candidate in Kumi. In Tororo, although Okoth Pascal, a boy from Nagongera Girls topped the district, the remaining four slots were taken by girls.
