THE Electoral Commission has banned fundraising activities during bye-elections for the Bushenyi district woman representative, reports Fortunate Ahimbisibwe.
In a statement issued last week and signed by the commission’s chairman, Dr. Badru Kiggundu, all fundraising was banned, “To allow a level ground for all the candidates in the race”.
The seat fell vacant after the death of Bernadette Bigirwa in Mbarara Hospital early this year.
Aspirants include the President’s press secretary, Mary Karooro Okurut, Sara Birete who lost to the deceased, Kabirisi Luberanga and Kyamuhunga sub-county councillor Juliet Ntwirenabo.
The statement said village councillors were members of the electoral college.
Displaying lists of the voters for filling local Council 1 vacancies has already started.
The commission is yet to set a date for the elections.
