KAMPALA — The Italian Government is to extend some of its emergency projects to Moroto and Arua districts. Currently, the projects are being run in the war-ravaged districts of Gulu, Pader and Kitgum. Italian ambassador Maurizio Teucci said this while meeting the regional cooperation state minister yesterday. He commended the Government efforts to restore peace in northern Uganda.

TZ envoy to retire
KAMPALA — The outgoing Tanzanian High Commissioner, Saleh Boi Tambwe has hailed the cordial relations between Uganda and his country. Tambwe, who met international affairs state minister Tom Butime yesterday, said he hoped the Government would soon resolve conflicts in the north.

Police hunt headteacher
MUKONO — The Police has put up sh0.5m as a reward for any person with information on the whereabouts of the former headmaster of St. John S.S.S. Joel Nawita is reportedly on the run after allegedly embezzling sh20m from the school. The money was meant for examinations. Nawita disappeared a month ago.

Rwandans return home
KIGALI — Another 258 Rwandan refugees who had been living in Uganda for nearly 10 years returned home on Wednesday, an official in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, told IRIN. Eugene Musiime, said the latest arrivals brought to 500 the number of refugees who have returned from Uganda since repatriation.

IDPs leave Kyoga isles
SOROTI — Over 3,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) who have been living on the floating islands on Lake Kyoga have quit following an order from the state minister of Disaster Prepa-redness, Christine Amo-ngin Aporu. The displaced returned to their villages and to the stationary island of Awer.
