FORMER national champion Charlie Lubega stands out too strong for a largely average field in the Caltex Havoline Energy rally that gets underway today with a super special stage at Kaazi.
And the sport’s enthusiasts should adjust to the new order in the season that will miss reigning national champion Moses Lumala, following his sudden retirement last week.

But Lubega is not taking things for granted.
“I am looking forward to competition, I never underrate anyone. It is never a foregone conclusion I can get a puncture or any other problem. Besides there are still many people like Riyaz (Kurji) who can spice up the event,” said Lubega whose Mitsubishi Evo4 has been downgraded to group N to conform to FIA regulations.

He went on: “It is sad that Moses (Lumala) is not around. We were looking forward to chasing him and this time he was going to forfeit 20 points like I did last year,” Lubega said.
Caltex Rally Team’s now lone crew of Kuku Ranjit and co-driver Dennis Okori will chase Lubega praying that misfortune grounds him the crew pounces on its maiden win in a seven-year career.
Fast rising Riyaz, seeded eighth could be moved to fifth position in the second leg in Mukono tomorrow by virtue of his powerful Mitsubishi Evo7.
Scrutineering will be conducted at 7.00am today at Caltex Nsambya station before the super special stage at 1.30pm.
Caltex Oil Uganda is sponsoring the first national rally championship event.

The rally is being organised by United Motor Sports Club (UMOSPOC).
