CIVIL Aviation Authority (CAA) has acquired a baggage scanner worth sh98m to bolster security at Entebbe International Airport.

According to a recent statement from CAA, the Linescan 215 hand baggage scanner will be used particularly in the VIP lounge.

The statement said this was part of a major over haul of the airport security.

According to the statement, the machine would enable security personnel check VIPs’ luggage without opening their bags or suitcases.

“Security personnel were complaining that VIPs were objecting to having their baggage opened for checking. This is one of the security measures which have been introduced to ensure that everyone using the airport feels safe,” read part of the statement.

The statement said a list of VIPs supposed to use the lounge is being prepared to avoid congestion and confusion.

CAA recently got a fire fighting truck from USA.
