BONIFACE Kiprop, preparing for an assault in the men’s 4km short and junior men 8km races at the World Cross Country championship has decided to take on the elder elites during the national cross country championship at the Kilembe Golf Course today morning.

The youngster, a double medallist – an individual silver and team bronze at the world cross country — will be taking on the elites like Francis Yiga, Wilson Kipkemei and Joseph Nsubuga in the senior men 12km race instead of the junior boys 8km.

“I am ready. I want to have competition and I think it is in the senior category that I will be having competition,” said Kiprop after reporting to the humid and hot Kasese, western Uganda.

He, together with James Kibet, another bronze medallist at last year’s Lausanne cross country, but now a senior, will be on the Standard High’s team.

By press time, over 150 athletes had checked in Kasese, thanks to Concern Tours and Travels, who donated a bus.

Meanwhile, surprises could emerge in the Ezra Cross-country Series final at Garuga today.
Runners have in their quest for cash awards been in intensive training with an aim of surprising opponents.

The ETTB season’s best athlete will be rewarded with sh3m. The winner in the junior men’s 8km race will pocket sh2m, runner-up sh1m and third finisher sh0.5m. The same offers will apply in the junior women’s 6km race.
