TOURISTS who wear shorts and open-sleeved clothes because of the heat in most parts of Uganda, even at night, can get feel of the natural cold at the newly-set up Jinja Nile Resort Adrift camp site.
The site is a base for bungy jumping and for people to relax. It is also an adventure centre with facilities for camping. Bonfires at the site from logs of firewood and technically-made charcoal kilns provide warmth for those who may not contain the cold especially emanating from the eastern banks of River Nile, where the camp is situated, an extension of Jinja Nile Resort Hotel.
The financial controller, Rakesh Pant, whose institution boasts of the innovation, says all the necessary catering services are provided with a bar serving all types of drinks to the guests. The services are provided 24-hours a day.
During the launching of the site last weekend, over 80 guests camped near the bonfires as they irrigated their throats with beers, wines, sodas and food.
Scores of revellers including tourists who visited the camp, stretched their bodies across the bonfires and charcoal lighters while others sought the comfort of the tents.
The manager of the camp, Tom Nugent, says the camp can accommodate 150 people at a time and facilities include dormitories, toilet showers and safari tents that can be erected on request. “Everything is in the house on top of a nice view of the Nile,” says Nugent.
A night in the camp costs the reveller $2 or Sh 4000 and this includes a bed and breakfast and $55 or sh55000 for a bungy jump. Rakesh says a variety of foods and activities are to be availed at the campsite.
