THE Electoral Commission (ec) has disqualified one of the candidates in tomorrow’s by-election for the Bushenyi Women MP, citing forged academic qualifications.

Juilet Ntwirenabo Kyomugisha (right) was disqualified yesterday after the commission established that she did not have a certificate for advanced level education, or its equivalent.

“The commission finds merit in the complaint lodged against Ms. Juliet Kyomugisha Ntwirenabo’s academic qualification and has resolved in accordance with the provisions of Section 15 of the Parliamentary elections Act to disqualify her from the elections scheduled for tomorrow,” said a statement by EC boss Eng. Badru Kiggundu.

Her disqualification came hours after a meeting with EC officials, where Ntwirenabo failed to defend her papers.
She claimed she was a victim of political witchhunting.

CID deputy director Okoth Ochola said the Police would investigate the matter once the EC sent the forged documents to them.
“We are waiting for the EC to start investigating her on forgery and uttering false documents,” he said.

This leaves Mary Karooro, President’s press secretary, Harriet Mushega, Sarah Bireete and Maclean Kyamutetera in the race.
