“I have just rang him. He is well,” said Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) Presidential Policy Commission (PPC) vice-chairman Henry Mayega, in reaction to rumours that party President Dr. Apollo Milton Obote (right) is dead.
Word spread around Kampala yesterday afternoon that the Lusaka-based Obote is dead.
Mayega, however, said Obote was in good health and was by yesterday still carrying on with his party work.
Mayega said, “He even gave me some assignments to do here among the party membership. Take it from me that there is nothing wrong with Dr. Obote.”
Obote, in his early 80s, has lived in self-exile in Zambia since he was overthrown in July 1985.
