MPs on the social services committee have demanded that more funds be given to the Nutrition and Early Childhood development project (NECDP), reports Fortunate Ahimbisibwe and Patrick Munyani.

The chairperson, Dorothy Hyuha, was responding to threats by the Ministry of Finance not to continue with the project due to the excessive funds it took.

“We wish to emphasise that the members of the social services committee toured the districts to see how the project was faring and were impressed by the development. The feeling we got in the field is that people are interested in this project and want it extended,’’ she said.

She was on Wednesday speaking at a conference on nutrition and early childhood development at Hotel Africana.

Hyuhya said they had an opportunity to interact with some district officials.

She called on stakeholders and policy implementors to discuss and devise ways for the project to continue so as to benefit all people in the country.
