THE Court of Appeal has upheld the death sentence of Francis Mwanga for the murder of Shamim Muhammad, 5, in Mukono district in 1999.

The Appellate Court, however, acquitted his co-accused Yunus Samanya, a witch doctor, and his (Mwanga’s) wife Gloria Nagaddya for lack of evidence, reports Hillary Nsambu.

Jinja High Court Justice P. K. Onega had condemned the trio, all residents of Naminya village in Kyaggwe county to death on July 23, 1999.

The accused reportedly slaughtered Shamim for sacrifice on April 4, 1999 at Naminya.

Police recovered Shamim’s mutilated body, which had no neck, right thumb, right second finger, private parts, a tongue and some blood vessels.
