Kapchorwa women have called for increased deployment of the army along the Kenya border, reports Richard Otim.

Woman representative for Bukwa sub-county Florence Chemtai recently said many families had been displaced by Karimojong and Pokot cattle rustlers, affecting production.

“We will suffer famine if the rustlers continue to disturb us. We are capable of producing food. All we need is peace and security,” she said.

Chemtai said in the villages of Bukwa and Swam, which closely bordered Kenya, most families were displaced from fertile land in the plains.

She said families were living on the less productive hilltops, which were prone to landslides during heavy rains.

The displaced people got support in form of seeds and farm implements from FAO to boost food production.

Horizont 2000, an Austrian organisation, is implementing the project.
