BUGANDA land board has evicted over 100 traditional healers who occupied two acres of the Kabaka’s land at Mengo.

Buganda land board official Levi Zimbe said recently that the healers had to vacate the land because they were occupying it illegaly.

Mengo through Muziira Court bailiffs cleared the two-acre land and put security personnel to guard the area.

Some residents in the area helped up themselves to local herbs and other items.

Sources said the healers were allowed to hold an exhibition for three weeks in 1994 but they subsequently refused to vacate the land. Last year, Kabaka Mutebi petitioned the High Court to issue an order evicting the healers after a 10 year stay on the land.

However, the healers led by Karim Musasizi asked the court and plaintiff to give them a six-month grace period in order to transfer to another place.

Even after the period of grace, the healers refused to leave despite repeated pleas from Buganda Land Board officials.

The High Court eviction order was issued on Friday authorising Muziira auctioneers to remove the healers and demolish their stalls.
