MINNESOTA based welterweight Mohammed “The African Express” Kayongo maintained his undefeated run in the ring with a solid win over Isander Lacen at the Mohican North Star Casino in Wisconsin on Sunday.
After a couple of slow paced opening rounds as they sized each other up, Kayongo took control to dominate and force the Puerto Rican’s corner to throw in the towel in the 5th round.
Kayongo fought a very smart bout, finding openings for his powerful punches and alternating effective head and body shots that left Lacen on the ropes and unable to punch back.
Kayongo, a silver medallist at the 2003 Manchester Commonwealth games has upped his professional career to 10-0-0(7 KOs). He has shown how lethal he is in the last three fights.
The 24-year-old boxer is following in the footsteps of Uganda’s top Super welterweight Kassim “The Dream” Ouma who is on the verge of a world title shot.
