THE Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) killed nine Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels and rescued 29 former captives in Gulu and Pader districts.
The army spokesman in Gulu, 2nd Lt. Ronald Kakurungu, recently said the rebels were killed during pursuits and operations.
“Three LRA rebels were killed in the area of Abalokodi in Atiak sub-county and three others were killed in the area of Keyo in Lamogi sub-county in Gulu district,” Kakunguru said.
During the same operation, the army rescued two ailing former captives who were admitted to Lira-palwo health centre.
Kakurungu said they rescued 27 former captives in Koch-Ongako and Wii-Agweng in Opit, Omoro county.
He said 10 LRA fighters surrendered with several weapons to various UPDF detachments in Gulu district.
“Our operations against the rebels are moving on effectively and we are killing them on a daily basis,” he said.
Kakurungu said they captured six sub-machine guns with 338 bullets from the rebels.
“We also recovered three bombs and three magazines of bullets,” he said.
The spokesman of the Lira-based 5th Division, 2nd Lt. Chris Magezi, said another rebel was killed at Alero sub-county in Nwoya county.
“We killed two more rebels of the LRA in the area of Lira-palwo in Pader district,” Magezi (right) said.
He also said the rebels last week ambushed two trucks belonging to Catholic Relief Services and killed two people.
