Councillors in Kabale municipal council have expressed concern over the increased nude shows and sex trade in the country, saying it may accelerate the spread of HIV/AIDS.

They made the remarks during a council session at the municipal hall on Wednesday.

The council was responding to a letter on ebimansulo (nude shows) written recently by the local government minister, Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere to all municipalities.

The mayor, Dr. Pius Ruhemurana, said if the shows were not reduced, they would lead to the increase of the spread of Aids because they encouraged promiscuity.

Councillors passed a resolution that social workers should study the problem closely and report their findings to the council.

Kabwegyere’s letter said media reports revealed that nude shows were performed in public and not exclusive clubs.

“I advise you to initiate action to regulate and possibly pass bye-laws regarding these indecent actions,” he added.
