The Central Organisation of Free Trade Unions (COFTU) has accused the Government of abuse of labour rights and participating in the breaking up of trade unions, reports Emmanuel Mulondo.
COFTU leaders told the parliamentary committee on labour and industrial relations last week that the government maintained many unconstitutional labour laws in statute books.
Apollo Nyangasi, a COFTU official, said the Government was not interested in addressing the issue of inadequate labour relations.
“Workers have lost confidence in the ministry. This explains why there are many strikes in the country,” he said.
Nyangasi said the minister and commissioner should be investigated because “self interest had overtaken public interest”.
