EIGHT ministries will be audited this year to ensure they have sound procurement practices and weed out corruption, a government official said.
Edgar Agaba, the acting executive director of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA), said the process would be in line with its recently unveiled national capacity building strategy.
“The authority, which has a fully fledged department for auditing, investigation and inspection, will handle complaints, review decisions and investigate cases of malpractice,” Agaba said.
This was during a workshop at Speke Resort Munyonyo recently.
Agaba said PPDA had audited 20% of the procurement and disposal activities of two ministries for June 2001/02 and 2002/03.
He said procurement units would be assessed.
