A panel will this week be constituted to conduct interviews for the post of National Council of Sports (NCS) General Secretary at a date to be announced soon.

A shortlist for the top Lugogo job and another for the post of assistant general secretary (administration) have been submitted to NCS by the education and sports ministry.

NCS acting general secretary John Odyek said yesterday that all that is remaining now are interviews.
Odyek has been acting general secretary since the resignation of long serving Abbey Lutaya last June.

Odyek’s contract expired in March but was extended by a month to allow the veteran administrator oversee the inception of a new general secretary.

Aggrey Kibenge, a member of Council’s finance and administration committee, which is charged with such recruitments, says a framework on how the interviews will be conducted has been finalised.

The NCS Act of 1964 empowers Council to handle the recruitment process.

NCS however this time involved the ministry and Public Service Commission for fear of conflict of interest given that applicants included NCS employees.

Those eyeing the post of general secretary include veteran cricketer William Kibuuka Musoke, former Kumi member of parliament Tom Omongole and National Post Primary Schools Sports Association assistant secretary Fred Barenzi.

Eight applications are said to have been received for the post of general secretary while the assistant’s job drew 26 candidates.
