CRANES regroup on Sunday to prepare for their two-week playing tour of Germany that starts on May 2.

The FUFA technical committee selected a group of 23 players for the German tour yesterday.

The national soccer team will play a couple of build up matches before travelling to Morocco and Egypt.

Abubaker Tabula, Ibrahim Mugisha, Assan Bajope, Geoffrey Sserunkuma, Noah Kasule Babadi and Sam Mubiru are the only survivors from the Cranes team that lifted the CECAFA Challenge Cup in Sudan.

The squad however excludes Express and SC Villa players who will be in Rwanda for the annual CECAFA tournament.

Express’ Hassan Mubiru, Godfrey Ssali, Israel Emuge and Edward Ssali together with Villa’s trio of Joseph Kabagambe, Andrew Mwesigwa and Posnet Omwony will join the rest of the team just before the opening World Cup/Nations Cup 2006 game against DR Congo in June.

Local tacticians Sam Simbwa and Sam Timbe will guide the side as soccer governing body FUFA wait for the Egyptian coach they are pursuing and expect here before May 2.

  • DR Congo have also named a squad for the game, excluding Newcastle striker Lomana Lua Lua (picture left).

The Congolese striker has been overlooked after his disgraceful sending off in the 2004 Cup of Nations game against hosts Tunisia.

The DR Congo and Uganda are in Group 2 of the 2006 World Cup and Cup of Nations qualifiers along with South Africa, Burkina Faso, Ghana and the Cape Verde Islands.
