ARUA — The construction of a sh642m media centre by the Catholic Diocese is complete. Project manager Fr. Tonino Pasolini recently said the centre included Radio Pacis FM station, an Internet cafe, a printing press, a video hall and a vineyard to sustain the project. The centre was funded by five organisations from Spain, Germany and Austria.

20,000 IDPs
ADJUMANI — Over 20,000 people have been displaced in Pakelle sub-county following recent attacks from the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels. The district secretary for security, Owen Mondia, recently said the displaced people had not yet received any aid.

LRA scatters
LIRA — The Lord’s Resistance Army rebels in northern Uganda have scattered into small groups to elude the army. UPDF spokesman for the northern region Lt. Paddy Ankunda recently said the army was closing in on the main rebel group of Joseph Kony in the Kit II valley.

STDs up
APAC — The district HIV/AIDS focal officer, Elly Ogang, recently said more than than 10,000 people suffer from Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) in the district annually. Ogang said the analysis made by health workers showed that HIV/AIDS was still a threat to the rural and urban people, and called for behavioural change.

New board
NEBBI — The new members of the district public accounts committee were recently sworn in. The four-man committee was sworn in by Grade One Magistrate Francis Matenga at the district boardroom. They comprised Jimmy Cwinyai, Justice Odubi, Anecho Donge and Aloysius Okwir.

IDPs starve
GULU — The Atiak LC3 chairman has said the internally displaced persons in his area have resorted to feeding on raw mangoes due to acute food shortages in the camp. George Odong recently appealed to humanitarian bodies to help the displaced persons with foodstuffs.
