OVER 160 Batoro have written to President Yoweri Museveni asking him to pardon former Toro Kingdom Prime Minister John Katuramu convicted for the murder of Prince Charles Kijjanangoma.

A petition signed by 165 residents said Katuramu initiated many development projects in the kingdom, which have collapsed since his imprisonment.

They were led by Toro Katebwa War Veterans Association chief Stephen Irumba.

The petition was handed to Museveni’s entourage last week as he toured Kabarole. According to Presidential Guard Brigade, the Batoro had planned a peaceful demonstration but were put off by security forces.

In the letter, the Batoro said Katuramu’s family, especially the children, were stranded.

They said they trusted Museveni’s usual understanding, praying that he would have mercy.

It is only the President, through the Committee on the prerogative of mercy, who can save Katuramu from hanging.

Katuramu was convicted together with his nephew Patrick Kwezi after they were found guilty of plotting Kijjanangoma’s murder by paying the assailants.
