The district chairperson, Capt. John Emily Otekat, has been elected the first African vice-chairperson of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum. Addressing the press at the Uganda Local Authorities Association offices on Monday, Otekat, who was appointed last week in Kingston, Jamaica, said he would use his new office to lobby for technical assistance for the country.

Student loses
NAIROBI —
A Makerere University student has been robbed of a car, mobile phone, identification card and Ksh1,300. The new Kenyan Police commissioner, Brig. Mohammed Hussein Ali, yesterday said Kenyan-born Sarah Nyokabi, was ambushed by armed thugs in a Nairobi suburb on Monday. He said the Police were looking for the suspects.

Man held
MASAKA —
The Police have arrested a man for allegedly killing his wife. The criminal investigations officer, Francis Egweku, yesterday said Geoffrey Twinomugisha of Ssaala village allegedly strangled his wife, Charity Kobusingye. Egweku said Twinomugisha would be committed to Court as soon as investigations were completed.
