IT is almost over, but not quiet yet. With the last games of the regular season being played this weekend, the MTN Heathens are set to finish top of the 2004 Bell Lager Rugby League table, but, will not have won the championship — not just yet.

League rule changes stipulate that the top four will play each other for the title. Heathens, Mango Kobs, LG Rhinos and Black Pirates are well placed to continue the battle.

“The format was changed according to the clubs’ wishes, and this year there will be a playoff to see the real winner,” Herbert Wafula, Country Rugby Manager, confirmed.

In the semi-finals, number one will play number four, and number two will play number three, all on a home and away basis. The winners will meet in a two-leg final.
The place to be this weekend is at the Kampala RFC, where the top four teams in the country will be in action.

The last time they met, LG Rhinos threw a scare into seven-time champions Mango Kobs, who had to fight hard from behind to win by a narrow three points.

It should be interesting to see if it was all a fluke by the Rhinos.
